“There is no sex in the champagne room.”

Near the end of "Bigger & Blacker," Chris Rock shifts into a segment that he frames as public service announcements—life lessons the audience needs to hear.

"There is no sex in the champagne room. None. Oh, there's champagne in the champagne room. But you don't want champagne—you want sex. And there is no sex in the champagne room."

Each observation is specific enough to sting and universal enough to draw a roar of recognition. Rock isn't making these up—he's articulating things everyone has seen but nobody has said clearly.

The broader bit works because Rock understands that people don't need inspiration—they need information. Self-help culture tells you to believe in yourself. Rock tells you there's no sex in the champagne room. His advice is more useful.
