Married and Bored, Single and Lonely

In "Never Scared," Chris Rock delivers what might be the most efficient summary of adult romantic life ever constructed:

"You're either married and bored, or single and lonely. There ain't no happiness nowhere."

Rock doesn't offer a solution because there isn't one. The human condition is a negotiation between competing needs, and no arrangement satisfies all of them. The audience laughs because they recognize this, and laughter is the only reasonable response to an insoluble problem.

"That's life. You pick your prison."
